How to speak to children about consecration

Note for those presenting the message to children: The text follows a sequential logic that should be respected. Therefore, when presenting the content, please maintain the order of the topics as given. Based on our experience—especially when there are many children, when speaking outdoors, or when the acoustics are poor—we recommend being as concise as possible. It is acceptable to omit the appearances of the Angel and/or the example of the rosary bracelet used to explain the meaning of consecration.

  • If time is limited, go directly to Part 2 (short version).

  • If the children are under the age of 6, use the age-appropriate version (Part 3).

  • At the end of each session, explain to the children how to pray the Rosary (Part 4).

Always begin with the recitation of one decade of the Rosary.
This helps everyone to enter into a spirit of prayer.

Dear children, we are here to tell you the story of three shepherd children from Fatima, Portugal, who were able to console God, repair the sins with which He is offended and offer consolation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Do you also want to console God and Mary? Yes?!

Do you know, children, that in the world there is war, violence, millions of children dying of starvation… Would you be happy if all these bad things came to an end? Yes?! Then you you’ll have to promise that you’ll listen very carefully to what I’m going to say. I will tell you the story of three children like you. It’s a true story. These children will teach you what you have to do to console God and Mary and to give birth to a new world in which there will be only Love.

The Three Shepherd Children and the Angel of Peace

The facts I’m about to tell you happened in 1917 in Fatima, a small town in Portugal, Europe, where during that time the First World War was being fought.

There were three children who lived in Fatima and they didn’t go to school because they were very poor; their names were Lucia, who was 10, Francisco, 9 and Jacinta 7. The last two children were brother and sister, Lucia’s cousins.

The things I’m telling you about were written by Lucia, in four notebooks of Memoirs, when she became an enclosed nun in Carmelo di Coimbra, in Portugal. Lucia died on February 13, 2005.

One day, – Lucia narrates – while they were grazing their sheep, the three shepherd children saw a shining, almost transparent, boy about the age of 12-14 approaching them: “Don’t be afraid – he told them – I am the Angel of peace, the Guardian Angel of Portugal; pray with me!”. It was St. Michael the Archangel, since he is the patron saint of Portugal. He appeared three times and he taught the children some prayers.

The first time, the Angel taught them a beautiful prayer and he repeated it three times kneeling down with his face to the ground: “My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You; I ask pardon for all those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love You”. Then he urged them to pray a great deal, and said: “The Hearts of Jesus and Mary are attentive to the voice of your supplications”. And he disappeared.

At first the children did what the Angel told them, and prayed a lot. However, when the initial enthusiasm was over, they went back to their games as if nothing had happened.

After some time, the Angel appeared to them again, while they were playing in Lucia’s garden and urged them again to pray and make sacrifices: “What are you doing? Pray, pray a great deal…. Offer unceasingly prayers and sacrifices to the Most High…The hearts of Jesus and Mary have designs of mercy on you.” “How should we sacrifice ourselves?” Lucia asked. «Of everything you can offer a sacrifice in reparation for the sins with which He is offended and in supplication for the conversion of sinners.»

A few months later, the Angel appeared to them a third time with in his hand a Chalice and above it a Host from which some drops of Blood fell into the Chalice. Leaving the Chalice and the Host suspended in the air, the Angel knelt down near the three children and made them repeat this prayer three times: “Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost, I adore You profoundly, and I offer You the Most Precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, present in the tabernacles of the world, in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference by which He, Himself is offended. And I draw upon the infinite merits of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus and of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, that You might convert poor sinners”. Then the Angel gave the children Communion by giving them the Body and Blood of Jesus.

In this way they prepared themselves for another more important encounter.

THE ENCOUNTER WITH OUR LADY

This new encounter took place on May 13, 1917, at noon, on a beautiful, sunny day. The three Shepherd children had just recited the Rosary. Suddenly they heard a noise of thunder and immediately they saw a bright light, with a beautiful Lady, brighter than the sun. The children were a bit afraid, but the slightly sad smile and the sweet voice of the Lady took away any fear: “Do not be afraid, I will not harm you.”

The three little shepherds became familiar and asked Her various questions: “Who are you? What’s your name? Where do you come from? What do you want from us?”. The Lady answered: “I come from Heaven” and pointed with Her hand to Heaven; “I want you to come here another five times, on the 13th day of every month…later I will tell you my name…”

They asked other questions which the Lady answered and in the end She asked them a question: «Do you want to offer yourselves to God, willing to accept everything that He wishes to send you, in an act of reparation for the sins with which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners?»

The three children understood it was something important, and they remained for a while in silence. Then they answered readily: “Yes”.

The Lady smiled and continued: “well, do not be afraid of anything. God’s Grace will be your comfort”. Then she opened her arms and from them came forth two big rays of Light which struck the children on their chest and entered inside them: “That Light was God”, Lucia wrote in her diary.

Afterwards, the Lady started rising into the air and Her last words were: “Say the Rosary every day and pray for the conversion of sinners”. Our Lady appeared to the children another five times, the last time on October 13 when there was the wonderful miracle of the sun. She repeated this invitation in all the apparitions, and twice she added: “Recite the Rosary as a family.”

Dear children, I can’t tell you about the other five apparitions now; I want to make you think about a few important things about this first encounter. So, Our Lady comes down from Heaven to ask to console the Heart of God and the conversion of sinners.

Now I want to ask you a question: “Do you think Our Lady wanted to go only to those three children in Portugal or to all the children in the world?”. To all the children in the world! “Therefore even to you?” Yes…

And now I want to ask you another question: do you know the Our Father prayer? In this prayer we ask our Father in Heaven: “Let Your kingdom (of Love)…come to us…may Your will of Love be done on earth, as in Heaven…!”.
Our Lady came to Fatima precisely for this reason, to ask for your help, children to realize this Kingdom of Love, and for this same reason she came amongst you today.

Our Lady calls each of you today to help Her console the Heart of God and bring peace to the world. If you too want to help her, as the three shepherd children did, if you want to bring a smile back to the face of the Blessed Virgin so embittered by the sins of men, tell Her your “Yes” too.

M

But what should we do? Three things:

1st = Offer ourselves to God

2nd = Recite the Rosary every day for the conversion of sinners

3rd = Make some small sacrifices.

“Do you wish to offer yourselves to God…?”
What does it mean?

This is the first thing Our Lady asked the three Shepherd children and you must understand well what this means.

Let’s give an example that will help us: you have all received a Rosary which you now wear on your neck; this rosary used to be mine, now that I have given it to you, whose is it?  “Ours!”, you answer rightly. Now, if that rosary is yours, you can do anything you want with it because it’s yours. But, if I hadn’t given it to you, what could you have done with it? “Nothing!”, you reply

Now let’s talk a little deeper. If I say to our Father in Heaven: “Father, I give myself to you! I offer myself to you!”, then who do we belong to?” “To Him!…” you answer. And it’s true, because you gave yourselves to Him.

And what can our Father in Heaven do with you? “Anything He wants to!”. That’s right, because we now belong to Him who wants only one thing: Love.

But if you say: “I’m not offering anything to our Father in Heaven, I don’t want to do what Our Lady asked me to do”; what can He do with us?” “Nothing!”, you answer me rightly. And do you know why? Because He created us to be free and He doesn’t want to force us to do anything; He respects our freedom.

The Virgin extended an invitation to the three children of Fatima, and they were free to accept or refuse. They answered “yes”.

What does “Make some small sacrifices, some little flowers” mean?

The three shepherd children of Fatima made many sacrifices, as the Angel had taught them. We too can imitate them. For example, if you like a dessert or a game, you can give up on taking it, for the love of Jesus. Or you can give up spending a lot of time on social media. Our Lady taught the children of Fatima and invites you too to offer these small sacrifices saying: “O Jesus it is for your love and for the conversion of sinners!”

What does the “conversion of sinners” mean?

It means helping people with our prayers to believe in Jesus and to know how to ask God for forgiveness for their mistakes. It means that the “bad” become “good”.

Did you understand everything correctly? Yes?

Well, now, if the Virgin asked you for help, is there anyone present here who would be willing to help her? Who? (*Lead by example by raising your hand) One is me. Who else? Who raises their hand? Everyone?

ell, now I extend to you the same invitation that the Virgin addressed to the three children of Fatima. Whoever wants to help Her will say “Yes!”. I will say Her own words: «Do you want to offer yourselves to God, willing to accept everything that He wishes to send you, in an act of reparation for the sins with which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners and (we add) for the Pope and for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world?»

Whoever wants to help Her will say his “yes” in a loud voice, whoever doesn’t want to will remain silent, okay?

I invite you to stand with your hands clasped.

First of all, let’s consecrate ourselves to the Angel of Peace – St. Michael the Archangel – with this little prayer: “My brother, give me your hand and bring me to God!”. Let’s recite it together, everyone: “My brother…”

Let’s ask the Angel of Peace to come here at this time and accompany us to pray the splendid prayer: «My God, I believe, I adore, I hope and I love you; I ask forgiveness for all those who do not believe, do not adore, do not hope and do not love you.” Let’s recite it together: My God…

Let’s all join our hands in prayer and close our eyes. Everyone ask himself if he wants to say this “yes” to God with his whole heart. Let’s spend a few moments in silence (*20-30 seconds). Are you ready?

(*With a clear voice, pronouncing the words well):

«Do you want to offer yourselves to God, willing to accept everything that He wishes to send you, in an act of reparation for the sins with which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners, for the Pope and for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world?»

No, I don’t like it. I want a “yes” that comes right from your heart; a powerful “yes”, which must break through Heaven and let lots of Love come down upon the earth…

So let’s try it again and this will be the right one. Let’s remain in silence again. Remember that this is the most important “yes” of your life. Let’s all join our hands in prayer and close our eyes. Everyone ask himself if he really wants to answer yes with all his heart.

«Do you want to offer yourselves to God, willing to accept everything that He wishes to send you, in an act of reparation for the sins with which He is offended, and of supplication for the conversion of sinners, for the Pope and for the triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in the world?»

Well, children. Now let’s remain in silence a bit more, keeping our eyes closed and our hands joined; let’s ask Mary to open her hands, as She did at Fatima, and let all of God’s Love come upon us and upon the whole world. (*Pause 20-30 seconds).

And now, children, let me tell you something on behalf of our Mother. Do you know what She is saying to you? She says “Thank you! Thank you for having accepted my invitation!”.

Now I will teach you two little consecration prayers, which you must always repeat during the day: one to our Mother in Heaven: “Mother, I give you my heart and will for eternity, save humanity”and one to our Father in Heaven: “My Father, good Father, I offer and give myself to You!” Let’s say it together, in a loud voice.

Thank you children, thank you on behalf of our Father in Heaven and Mary. Thank you also on my behalf.

Now we will give you a leaflet which explains how to say the rosary (the teachers or accompanying persons distribute the leaflets).

What should we do now? Every day we will pray the Rosary for the conversion of sinners and we will also offer some small sacrifice to the Lord, like the three shepherds of Fatima in reparation for the sins with which He is offended and for the conversion of sinners.

ow we will give you a leaflet to learn how to recite the Rosary (the teachers or volunteers distribute the leaflets). (If time permits, children are taught to recite it: see attachment)

Padre Pio of Pietrelcina said The Rosary is Mary’s weapon to destroy evil. The Rosary is the only weapon in the world that destroys “sin, evil… (let the children say it). If many of us use this weapon, we will form a large ARMY; a WHITE Army of the Madonna, because white is the color of innocence. All the children of the world who will recite the Rosary every day, alone, or by forming small prayer groups – THE PRAYER NESTS of the WHITE ARMY – with their families, relatives and friends will be part of this Army. Learn to recite it well and then you will recite it every day as a family. You will find written in the leaflet that we gave you how a Prayer Nest is formed.

Thanks, kids. God and Mary say Thank you!

LET’S SEND MARY A KISS

Before we leave, do we want to send a little kiss to Mary? Yes? Well, let’s try… and now let’s give an applause and sing a song to Our Lady (*before the encounter decide on the song with the teachers)
