What do the children think?

We are certain you would be pleased to know how children today are responding to the Blessed Virgin, who—just as she did with the three little shepherds of Fatima—makes the same invitation to them: to pray the Rosary and consecrate themselves to Her.
Therefore, we would like to share with you a glimpse of what has happened—and continues to happen—among many little ones in Italy and around the world, by offering a few excerpts from the letters we have received:

“Every morning I wake up early to go to Miss Rita’s to pray the five decades of the Rosary with Maria Pia and the other children. This morning, I left my milk on the table so I could pray the Rosary first. My Aunt Ada noticed and, angry, spanked me. I didn’t mind—I offered a little sacrifice to Our Lady—and after I’d finished my milk, we prayed the Holy Rosary”. (Giorgio M. – Manduria, Italy)

“I’m a nine-year-old girl, and I gathered fifteen girls from my class, aged around nine or ten. Every morning we pray the Holy Rosary.”. (Imma Pia F. – Manduria, Italy)

“We went spreading the Rosary, and some unbelievers chased us with broomsticks—but we didn’t care. We went to every family.” (Vildo M. – Mafalda, CB Italy)

“I went to give each person a rosary and teach them the mysteries of the Holy Rosary… With the other children, we split into groups, and each goes to a neighborhood of the town to introduce and pray the Rosary. We say the Rosary at home and at school”. (Leonardo P. – Mafalda, CB, Italy)

“Dear Father A., I want to tell you something that feels very important and makes me so happy: I convinced the teacher to pray the Rosary in class. One of my friends teased me because I prayed the Rosary, but then she realized she was wrong and now prays it with her grandmother”. (Giovanna – Sulmona, AQ Italy)

With the start of the year, we committed to pray more with the children. Devotion to Our Lady has grown in the community and at school. The grandmother of a child in preschool, Fabrizio, told me that one evening while watching TV, they heard about a plane crash in Tuscany that killed 25 people. Fabrizio got up and went to pray for those poor people. When his grandmother takes him shopping or for a walk, he pulls out the rosary and she asks him, ‘Fabrizio, what are you doing?’ He replies, ‘I must pray.’ One night at bedtime, Fabrizio said to his mother, ‘I must say the whole rosary!’ His mother replied, ‘But ten Hail Marys are enough…’ He insisted, ‘No, Mom, Our Lady is happier if I pray the whole rosary!’ Fabrizio is only five—the way, Father, Our Lady works through these children, and through them speaks to others about their Christian duty. Every night I pray the Rosary with the older children who are still awake. On the first day of May, something beautiful happened: during afternoon rest, the older ones came to me and asked if we could pray the Rosary, as usual. Since we were going to say it in church in about thirty minutes, I said no—I thought they’d get tired (the Director always tells me not to tire them…). They stayed quiet, then after a few minutes, one of them, holding the rosary, said, ‘May I pray on my own?’ I said yes. Instead, what did they do? They gathered as a group and prayed the Rosary, as usual, passing the rosary around every ten Hail Marys. I let them pray, pretending not to hear them—and quietly, I joined them…” (Suor Mariangela – Bologna Italy)

Dear Father, at school we all pray the Rosary with the little rosaries you gave us”. (Sabrina I el., Chieti Italy).

Every week 200 rural children from Juventino Rosas gather in the village church to pray the Holy Rosary, each holding their ‘weapon’; happy to be part of the Armata Bianca, they pray for peace in the world”. (Ludovica O. – Celaya – Mexico)

The children meet once a week to pray the Rosary and attend Holy Mass daily. Giorgio, only three years old, also prays the Rosary. Another child, older, has undergone seven heart surgeries; he offers everything to Our Lady, calling himself privileged”. (Iole P. – L’Aquila Italy)

“Dear Father A., since you visited my class and spoke about Our Lady, I understood what Love means. Once a week I pray the Rosary, asking Jesus to make people kinder and end violence; I want love in the world. When you took us to the chapel and we consecrated ourselves to Our Lady, I was moved and very happy. I hope you return to my class to talk about Our Lady again—your words touched all our hearts. I continue praying the Rosary so there may always be Love in the world; I hope other children, like me, have understood what it means to love one’s neighbor and pray”. (Teresa Di S. – Napoli, Italy)

“Since I began praying, something inside me has changed: I used to disobey my parents, but now, as soon as my mother asks me to do something, I do it—no complaints”. (Marco M. – Vermicino di Frascati, Italy)

“My seven-year-old daughter comes home from school with a white rosary around her neck. Before I can speak, she tells me joyfully: ‘Mom, we must pray the Rosary daily for peace in the world. Our Lady asks for our help, and I promised I’d help her because…’ Then she tells me the story of Fatima. Around nine o’clock at night, I get her ready for bed, but to my amazement, she kneels, takes the rosary, and begins praying, asking for my help. She is tired but doesn’t stop; I try to follow her quietly, then I eventually tell her to lie down. She refuses. She says, ‘Mom, I promised Our Lady I’d help her—I’m in the White Army.’ Seeing her so firm, I left her alone with her prayer. It was the first time Mary entered my home through the Rosary—it was my little girl bringing back a prayer I’d forgotten. I cried from emotion and tenderness at what Mary did for me and my child!” (a mother – Bergamo, Italy).

“Mom! Mom! I have an atomic bomb—I’ll show it to you now!” shouted my nine‑year‑old daughter. I was frightened because I had never heard her speak in that tone. “Sweetheart, do you have a fever?” I asked. “No, Mom, I feel fine. I have an atomic bomb of peace and forgiveness in my heart. It’s the Holy Rosary—Our Lady’s weapon from Heaven—and this morning I said my ‘yes’ to Mary because I want to help her. I’m in the Armata Bianca—there are many of us worldwide, all united by the white crown of the Rosary. I’m proud to belong to the Armata Bianca”. (P.G. – Roma, Italy)

“Every day I try to improve my life, to be kinder and lead others to do the same. Almost every evening, my two friends and I lock ourselves in a small room, kneel, and pray the Rosary. I even convinced my mother—though not every evening, but when she remembers, she prays too. Doing this, we might truly save the world from that hell that leads people to always choose evil over good”. (Anna – Roma, Italy).

“Dear Father A., this is Laura writing on behalf of my little sister Francesca and my little brother Antonio. We are part of the White Army in Iglesias. Since you last visited Iglesias with the statue of the Madonna, even our father, who never prayed the Rosary, now prays it with us and our mother in the family. I am nine, almost ten—I’ve been asking this from Mary for a long time. Sometimes Dad comes with us when the Armata Bianca gathers on Tuesdays in the parish for adoration. Now I wish you a happy new year. Please come visit us soon”. (Laura, Francesca e Antonio G., Iglesias)

Dear Father A., since you left, my classmates and I go to the nuns’ chapel and pray the Rosary every evening after school. My secret is that I pray every night behind the balcony glass: ‘Heavenly Father, please come quickly among us. (Lucia, S. Demetrio – L’Aquila, Italy)

Dear Father A., it was the first time a priest came to Senise to bring the statue of Our Lady to our school. Now we pray with the Rosary, and every time I pray it, I feel relieved and stronger to make sacrifices and acts of goodness. When you spoke, we listened with wide eyes and open ears—so attentive, even not a fly could be heard. The first‑grade children didn’t move, and after a while, I realized that it wasn’t you speaking to us—it was Mary speaking in our hearts, guiding us to follow the path of good. Thank you for helping us understand that salvation can be achieved through our prayers.” (Filomena B. – Senise, Italy)

In a small mountain village in Abruzzo, children, after hearing about Fatima and the three shepherd children, decided to gather every night to pray the Rosary. They went to church but were rudely turned away by a woman with many insults. Undaunted, they gathered at one child’s home and prayed the Rosary. Afterwards, they went to the woman and politely told her: “We prayed the Rosary anyway…and we prayed for you too!” (Maria, Roio, L’Aquila, Italy).

“Every evening, my brother Salvatore and I pray the Rosary aloud before going to bed. I noticed the neighbors hear us through the wall and they join in, praying too….” (Concetta – Manduria, Italy)

(Suor Teresa, Novara, Italy).

A six‑year‑old girl at the Presentation school—Maria Catalina Gayalla Lagos—returns home and invites her family to listen because she wants to make a prayer to Our Lady of Heaven. She takes her white rosary and begins the Hail Mary. They expect her to tire after four or five prayers—but she goes on, decade after decade, without stopping, until the end, and urges her family to respond. Then she finishes with these words: “Yo te pido Señor para che nunca me haga olvidar de rezar el Rosario porque muchos niños tienen que saber que Dios es vivo y que no es muerto”, (“I pray to You, Lord, that I may never forget to pray the Rosary, so that many children may know that God is alive and not dead.”). Asi sea. Amen(Angela M., Bogotà, Colombia)

“If a mother immediately rushes to her child when she hears his pleading voice,
how can we think that God would not look with special tenderness and kindness,
and not be pleased with your prayers, your little offerings, your acts of generosity, your voluntary sacrifices?
”.
St. Pope Paul VI, February 17, 1968

We are always amazed at the fresh spontaneity and ease with which our children—despite being children of consumerism and used to every comfort—accept the invitation to make a little offering. We simply suggest not watching television for a week, not playing video games, and always smiling. Almost all the children say yes. Certainly, it is the desire for a new world—one of peace and love—that drives them to contribute with what strength they have, doing what they can with generosity to help bring it about. It’s beautiful to see these children still strong and free, capable even of influencing adults:
“My mom,” writes 8-year-old Antonio, “will give up her daily coffee.”

“Since the Madonna came to ask for our help, we answered ‘Yes’. We promised the Madonna to offer ourselves to God, to help the world. Father A. encouraged us and gave us a very powerful weapon: the Rosary. Every night, before going to bed, I pray it. The Madonna came to ask for a hand, asking for little sacrifices: like not watching TV anymore. But I think that to help bring peace, more sacrifices are needed. I want to make more little offerings”. (Fabrizio A. 9,- Cagliari, Italy).

“We promise not to watch TV for a whole week for Jesus and the Madonna, and I will make other sacrifices. I will help my mom and won’t whine anymore to get ice cream, and I will pray the Rosary.”. (Laura F. 6, Cagliari).

Dear Father A., for many days I haven’t watched TV, just like you told us. I lasted for a while, but I promise I will try again not to watch it. Many kisses from Elisa L.” (7 – Cagliari, Italy)

“Dear Father A., even though you are not here, I remember you. I remember that you asked us to make a sacrifice—like not watching TV for a week. I didn’t watch it for two weeks. Best regards from Giorgio M..” (7 – Cagliari)

“Since Father A. gave me the advice to stop watching TV, I’ve been studying more. Greetings to all with affection”. (Graziella B. 7, Bergamo)

“Dear Little Madonna, Father A. came and talked to us about You. Little Madonna, You need me to help save the world: I will make small sacrifices like not watching TV—I promise You. Madonna, I love You very much. I will always help You every time You call me. With the Rosary, I will pray to help the world. Mama, I give You my heart and will, for eternity—save humanity”. (Elena – 7- Venezia, Italy)

“Since Father A. came, my life has changed. I’ve become better at school, thanks to his advice not to watch TV… And from that day on, I’ve been saying the Holy Rosary every day to make all the bad things in the world disappear.” (Giovanni A., Bergamo)

“I haven’t watched TV since the day you told me not to…” (Giovanna C. – Novara, Italy)

“Father A. told us not to watch television and I’ve kept the promise” (Stefania, 9, Torino, Italy)

“You told us not to watch TV for a week, and now I’m doing well. From Monday to today, I’ve been reading books”. (Mattia G., Torino, Italy)

“Today I visited the Chapel of St. Joseph, and here there’s a beautiful Nest of Prayer. I feel like I’m with Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta—the children resemble them so much in their simplicity and humility. Can you imagine, Father, the children prostrate themselves to adore Jesus in the chapel, a very small place with a very prickly carpet; they make many sacrifices, sleep on the floor, and give their snacks to poorer children. They read about these things in a booklet I gave them about the story of Fatima—they want to imitate them in everything.” (Maricruz, Santo Domingo, Dominican Rep).
